Storm in the big woods!

Posted by Sunset Treed on January 21, 2010 at 7:43 PM

Well I been hunting Storm solo for the past several days so I took her and Cheyenne to the big woods for a round.  It has warmed up here a bunch and I was thinking the squirrels might be out this afternoon.  Sure enough Cheyenne had one treed in less than 10 min.  Got in there to her and tied Storm back.  Just about the time I started looking for him he made a break for it and hit a den hole.  Talked Cheyenne up real good and this got Storm to barking like crazy!  Cut 'em loose and kept hunting.  Storm is getting really bold now and will try to cross a creek no matter how deep,  she got in up to her neck a couple of times and I had to go back a help her out.  The thing I like about that is, no matter how bad she gets stuck or scared she just keeps coming back for more!

Second tree Cheyenne made she was about 150 yds ahead.  Took my time getting to her and tied Storm once again.  She started barking while I looked for the squirrel and it didn't take long to find him.  Knocked that one out and made a big deal out of it while petting Cheyenne up.  This got Storm really fired up and barking so I tossed it to her so she could get a little taste of fur!  Cut 'em loose and they both went to hunting in high gear!  Circled back around so we could head back toward the truck and true to form Cheyenne got in there deep.  She always seems to know when we are heading back and will do her best to keep hunting.  Well Storm and I made our way back to where we started and Cheyenne was about 400 yds up the holler next to the one we had just hunted out.  Started up that one to her but I couldn't hear her treeing.  Every now and then I would hear a bark or 2 but that was it.  Kept easing in there to her and watching on the garmin as she worked the track.  Not sure if she trailed it or timbered it but she went over 100 yds and sat down treed.  Took a while to get there but she had the squirrel.  Tied Storm where I thought it would fall so maybe she would see it, but she was to busy watching me to see it come out.  Oh well, she barked like crazy after she figured out that Cheyenne had it so I let her get another little taste of fur!  Only had about 30 min left before dark so I lead Cheyenne out and dang if Storm didn't go to hunting out in front of us and acting like a big dog!!   I don't think it will be long before she figures it all out, she sure is a smart pup!!
